Emtee’s Disappointment at Missing Out on the Basketball African League (BAL)
Emtee, the South African rapper, expressed his frustration on social media because he was not invited to the Basketball African League (BAL), a platform that showcases the talent of professional basketball players across Africa. Despite being basketball fanatic, Emtee felt excluded from the event, which typically extends invitations to celebrities and public figures with ties to the sport or the teams participating.
Emtee’s Perspective

Admittedly, Emtee would have loved to flaunt his bold style, killer tracks, excite the masses at BAL and shine where hip hop and basketball collide. When addressing the matter, Emtee highlighted issues on fairness, failure by the entertainment industry to recognize talent, underestimation, and unwarranted exclusion. The reason Emtee felt strongly about the exclusion by BAL is because he values the tie between hip hop and basketball. After all, the basketball court allure and hip hop rhythm never fail to come together and create a vibe that resonates with many.
Emtee’s frustration is relatable to many who have felt overlooked and excluded but even more importantly, it is a perfect opportunity to remind believers on what the Bible says about favoritism and exclusion.
What we can Learn from Emtee on the Bal
- Trust in God’s Sovereignty
- One relevant verse is Romans 8:28 which reminds believers that, “All things work together for the good of those who love God.” This verse encourages trust in God’s sovereignty amidst disappointments because he can use undesirable circumstances to our favor. Circumstances that happen to everyone never catch God by surprise. He is always aware and never fails to act on time. He also shows no partiality or bias because He is a just God.
- Regard Others as Better
- Philippians 2: 3 – 4 reads as follows, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.”
- Respond with Love
- Matthew 5: 44 says, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.” Believers should love their enemies and pray for those who mistreat them. Emtee’s response can serve as a reminder to respond with love and forgiveness, even when faced with rejection.
- God is Reliable
- In Psalm 27: 10, the Bible reminds us of the following, “Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.” Human beings bind themselves to error by showing favoritism and worse, but scripture assures us that God is reliable – even if everyone, including your mother and father, may fail you, God will not.
